It is false that the Lula government ordered the PRF to seize all imported tyres

The PRF denied the rumor and said it had not received orders to carry out seizures indiscriminately. The disinformation elements allude to an operation carried out in June by the Federal Revenue Service, which seized only smuggled foreign tires.

The federal government authorizes the Federal Highway Patrol to stop trucks to remove any imported tires and forces truckers to pay to remove

The posts mislead that Lula's government has authorized the PRF to seize any imported tires on trucks; only smuggled tires are seized.

Network publications claim that Lula’s government has authorized the PRF to stop trucks to remove any imported tires with the aim that truckers will later pay to retrieve the items, which is false. The PRF informed to the to the facts that it has not received orders for indiscriminate seizures and that one of its duties, in the context of the fight against crime, is to combat smuggling and the smuggling of goods, regardless of the nature of the product found during the inspections.

The controlled pieces allude to Operation Rubber Path of the Federal Revenue Agency, in the Maringá region (PR), on June 27, 2023. The action aimed at combating the irregular trade in foreign tires. In Note to the to the factsthe Revenue Agency has communicated that it is up to it to prevent the entry into the country of products that have not collected the due taxes and that this measure serves to protect the national industry from unfair competition, as well as guaranteeing that traders who operate legally are not driven off the market by dealers who engage in smuggling and embezzlement.

“There has been no change in the guidelines for the Federal Revenue Agency with respect to tires in this government or in the previous government. The agency continues to perform the foreign trade management role by following the laws and regulations that regulate the import and export processes,” the text reads.

The Revenue Agency also communicated that during the operation tires were removed from four motor vehicles which were located in commercial establishments inspected during the operation and which were part of the scam. On that date, there were no seizures of trucks traveling on the Maringá road. More than 600 illegally imported tyres they were arrested in Maringá shops.

According to the investigations, the tires would come from Paraguay and would enter Brazil illegally through the region of the municipality of Sete Quedas (MS). The tires would be brought to Paraná already mounted on trucks belonging to transport companies and self-employed hauliers, who would carry out the transport at prices well below the market price. Arriving in the Maringá region, the tires would be removed from the trailers and sold in establishments that would resell them at prices lower than those charged by the legal market.

Actions to combat tire smuggling are commonly conducted by the PRF and the Federal Revenue Agency. To the beginning of the yearfor example, the PRF seized a trailer with tires smuggled from Paraguay in Nova Andradina (MS).
