The American version of The Office was a huge success and is now considered one of the most “feel-good” sitcoms on television. However, one of its lead actors, Rainn Wilson, said he was unhappy with much of the filming.

When I was in the office, I spent a few years being very unhappy because I wanted more. (…) I touched hundreds of thousands and wanted millions. I was a TV star but I wanted to be a movie star, it was never enough.

We can relate to Rainn Wilson as his co-star on the series, Steve Carell, saw his film career soar thanks to his performance on The Office, to the point where he was absent from all of Season 8 and most of Season 9 was very busy. Making movies like That Summer, Till the Ends of the World Do Us Part and The Amazing Burt Wonderstone.
That being said, while he didn’t manage to land many roles on the big screen during his Office years (let’s mention The Rocker), Wilson did star in a few feature films along with the series. Thus, we could see him in James Gunn’s Juno, Transformers 2: Revenge or Super.
When Steve Carell left, Ryan Wilson might have hoped his character would become the new boss of a Scranton paper firm. Instead, the show’s creators opted to wrap up guest stars such as James Spader, Will Ferrell, Catherine Tate, and even Ed Helms (Andy Bernard, a character present since Season 3) would be allowed to post. Dwight Shruti will only hold the position temporarily, except at the end of the series.
In 2012, a year before the show ended, Wilson had an opportunity to develop a spin-off of her character that would be featured as an episode in the ninth and final season. Ultimately, the project was rejected by NBC and would have focused on the Schrute farm, which would have been turned into a bed and breakfast.
