The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) resources is reaching unimaginable feats, but some futurists have already deduced where this technology could lead. James Cameron, director of “The Terminator”, took advantage of the theme to create a link with the script of the film which he co-authored.

I warned you in 1984 and you didn’t listen.

Remember “The Terminator”

“The Terminator” is a science fiction film released in 1984, with James Cameron among the authors. The story deals with a utopian vision of the future in the war between man and machine.

hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film also stars Linda Hamilton (as Sarah Connor) and Michael Biehn (as Kyle Reese). With the success of the first film, the story was expanded and became a major film franchise. In chronological order:

  • “The Terminator (1984)”;
  • “Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)”;
  • “Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines (2003)”;
  • “Terminator Salvation (2009)”;
  • “Terminator: Genesis (2015)”;
  • “Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)”.

“I think AI weapons are the biggest danger,” Cameron added. “I think we’re going to enter the equivalent of the nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don’t build it, the other guys will definitely build it, and then it will escalate.”

Personally, I don’t believe that an embodied mind is just regurgitating what other embodied minds have said about the life they’ve had, about love, about lying, about fear, about mortality – and putting it all together in a word salad and then regurgitating it… I don’t think there’s anything that moves an audience.

“Let’s wait 20 years, and if an artificial intelligence wins an Oscar for best screenplay, I think we should take it seriously,” added the director.
