There is less than a month left for the last two chapters of ‘Stranger Things 4’ to be released. If you take the wait badly, all these series will make it much more entertaining.
While the success of other series is not easy to explain, that of ‘Stranger Things’ is very clear: teenage adventures (a gang of very well-chosen kids who also like each other), paranormal mystery and a dose of eighties nostalgia They are the keys to the series by the Duffer brothers, which has just released vol.1 of the fourth season and which has once again endorsed said success.
For many, these new chapters that have taken three years to arrive have been the best of ‘Stranger Things’. The ‘fans’ have devoured the seven episodes of vol.1 of the fourth season, and that they are not exactly short, since each one of them leaves after 75 minutes (the last one lasts an hour and a half, but be careful with the cliffhanger).
If that ending has left you wanting more and you think you’ll wait until July 1 when ‘Stranger Things’ vol. Amazon Prime Video, Disney +, Apple Tv and Movistar Plus + that will liven up the time a little.
Murder mysteries in small towns, families dealing with superpowers, teenage friendships, repercussions of scientific discoveries, trips to the 80s and 90s… These 10 series that we have chosen have a little bit of everything and will be the perfect antidote to that long wait.
1) ‘This shit is beyond me’ (Netflix)
Less than 3 hours for a most irreverent story starring Sydney (Sophia Lillis, whom we have seen for example in ‘It’ and ‘Open Wounds’), a teenager who is trying to cope as best she can with her time at high school with a best friend who is about to lose because she starts dating the most idiotic guy in the class. She accompanies him in the cast Wyatt Oleff.
2) ‘Dark’ (Netflix)
Many baptized this mystery crime drama as the European ‘Stranger Things’. ‘Dark’ lasted three seasons, which in its day was a real milestone because it rose as the most valued Netflix series for Rotten Tomatoes, with a 100% score. Set in contemporary Germany, it tells of the disappearance of two children in Widen. The town turns to look for them until the situation becomes more and more a supernatural experience because it is related to some inexplicable events that occurred in 1986. All this mysterious disappearance, in addition, will bring to light the past and the secrets of four families They discover that they are connected.
3) ‘Outer Range’ (Amazon Prime Video)
Do you think it’s a series of cowboys, Indians and horses? No, don’t be fooled by appearances. One of the biggest themes on ‘Outer Range’ is the paranormal. Josh Brolin stars as a Wyoming rancher who finds a perfectly circular hole about 30 feet wide in the far reaches of his pasture, and when he climbs into it, he comes out the other side in a different… place. There are no monsters but there are very strange things and also family dramas in a small town.
4) ‘Separation’ (Apple TV)
No, this series doesn’t have an upside-down world like ‘Stranger Things’ but it explores the idea of separating career and personal life in a terrifying yet revealing way. Ben Stiller directs two protagonists like the top of a pine tree, Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette. It is a series set in Lumen Industries, a company that seeks to take work-life balance to a new level with a new procedure that separates their memories of work and personal life. The story follows Mark Scout, a businessman who leads a team at the mysterious Lumen Industries, whose employees have had to undergo this surgical procedure. But when Mark finds himself involved in a mystery, he begins to question whether or not what is being done in the company is right.
5) ‘Stories from the Loop’ (Amazon Prime Video)
Exploration of the city and the people who live on ‘The Loop’, that is, ‘The Loop’, a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe, doing things that were previously relegated only to science fiction. In this mysterious and fantastic city, moving stories are told that show universal emotional experiences while drawing on the intrigue of genre storytelling.
6) ‘Lock & Key’ (Netflix)
It is an adaptation of the bestselling comics by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, edited here by Panini; is an entertaining mystery series that also deals with themes such as coming of age, loss, grief, love, the value of family… After the murder of their father in mysterious circumstances, the three Locke brothers and their mother move into the family mansion, Key House. There they discover numerous magical keys that could be related to the death of their father. As the young Lockes explore the keys and their powers, a mysterious demon comes out of his slumber…and will stop at nothing to steal them.
7) ‘Black Mirror’ (Netflix)
Although the target audience of ‘Stranger Things’ is much younger than that of ‘Black Mirror’, they do agree on their science fiction point of view. It’s hard to explain how fabulously good ‘Black Mirror’ is. If we don’t give it a 10 in the total score, it’s because there are chapters that are a bit weak (we would give others a 12, really). We like the idea that, although they are all science fiction and with technology at their core, they do not follow a plot line, so they can be seen separately and jumping from one season to another. That yes, if you see one, it is easy to get hooked, because the approaches of this British series are the most disturbing and scathing, with destructive criticism of who we are, where we are going and where we come from.
8) ‘The other side of the institute’ (Disney +)
It’s a lighter series compared to most on this list, but ‘Stranger Things’ isn’t all screams and scares, either. One of the things that fans love about the series is its humor, which makes ‘The Other Side of School’ a great series if you are looking for horror and fun. Spanning eight episodes, this 2021 series tells thought-provoking stories as each chapter casts a different cast on journeys of supernatural self-discovery involving everything from aliens to ghosts to parallel universes.
9) ‘Paradise’ (Movistar +)
Levante, 1992, end of summer in a coastal town. Sandra, Eva and Malena, 15 years old, disappear in a nightclub without leaving a trace. The police don’t seem to be looking in the right direction, so Javi, Sandra’s little brother, starts an investigation with Quino and Álvaro, her best friends, and Zeta, the class bully. Together they discover that those who have their sister are not of this world. This series, set in the 90s and with a gang of kids as the protagonist, will premiere its second season on June 16.
10) ‘The Umbrella Academy’ (Netflix)
Something more comical than ‘Stranger Things’ but with the same nostalgic air, its suspenseful plot line, its apocalyptic background and its supernatural themes. The story, set in 1989, follows 43 children who come from miraculous births and are adopted by a billionaire to be trained to save the world. After a series of disagreements and misunderstandings over the years, the six surviving members reunite and work to solve the mystery surrounding the death of their adoptive father.
