Everyone knows it today! Do you know which star is hidden in this scene?

A holy monster with a spectacular career, Robert De Niro in turn lends his characteristics to characters that have marked the history of cinema and there are countless monuments that make up his large filmography today.

From Goodfellas to Raging Bull, The Mission, The Heat, The Godfather or The Immortals, this actor with unforgettable faces and unmatched charisma is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood (even if sometimes a few roles are completely unlikely).

However, 58 years ago, almost a decade before he began a fruitful collaboration with Martin Scorsese (Mean Streets, then Taxi Driver), Robert De Niro was still completely unknown in the eyes of the general public and just another. Trying to find a place on the Hollywood stage.

As we can see in the excerpt below, his first film role dates back to 1965 (he had previously starred in Brian De Palma’s Student Film). He was only thirty years old then and was visiting France with his father. It was there that he was asked to play – one day into filming – a New York restaurant customer in Marcel Carne’s new film, Three Rooms in Manhattan.

This romantic drama, directed by Maurice Ronnett and Annie Girardot, who are seen alone at dinner in a given scene, allowed De Niro to take his first steps into the darkroom. Looking closely, we can actually see him sitting in the background, in the company of a young woman, right between the two French actresses.

Looking even more closely, we can also see that between the two shots of the scene, he has secretly switched places, and that Robert De Niro’s very first scene in the movie therefore contains… a beautiful false connection.

Three years later, shortly before the beginning of fame, the future hero of the taxi driver also played additional roles for Marcel Carnet in a drama called Les Jeunes Loups.
