Netflix: When The Crown Star Proves He Can Do It All In This Fast & Furious Spin-Off

He is English, 35 years old and already has an impressive CV. She is Vanessa Kirby. An eclectic actor who cannot be placed in any box. Cinema, theater, television. He handles everything. And above all, in all genres. From Crown to Mission: Impossible, nothing stops him. Nothing seems to scare him.

Discovered thanks to The Crown, where she portrayed Princess Margaret for the first two seasons in 2016 and 2017, she immediately created the image of a “serious” actress associated with a movie or author series. His performance was unanimously praised by the international press and he won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor.

She was immediately noticed and her career took a huge leap in 2018 when she was cast as Alana Mizopolis aka White Widow in Mission Impossible – Fallout to play one of the main roles opposite Tom Cruise. And only after that, we find him in a purely auteur film, Agnieszka Holland’s Shadow of Stalin, which, moreover, is in a secondary role.

The role of the White Widow is almost a joke. But no, against all odds, Vanessa Kirby is sharing the bill with two box office behemoths in Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw. In the spin-off of the famous franchise, he almost steals the show’s two title characters and is camped by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

And she’s not here to do extras or just play the pretty girl. She plays Hattie Shaw, Deckard’s (Statham) sister, at least as tough as her brother.

Hetty is an MI6 agent who embodies brutality. He still kicks ass like everyone else. And the film’s producer was full of praise when the film released American magazine On Kirby and his commitment to the role: “He showed up, trained, learned to fight. It was his first real action film. He starred in Mission: Impossible, sure, but he really struggled there and I can’t wait to see him“.

And let’s continue his character: “He’s so awesome and the cool thing is that they can save him, but he doesn’t have to. He saves himself because he can“.

The following year, in 2020, she appeared on screen in Cornel Mundruzzo’s Netflix film Pieces of a Woman, where she plays a woman who loses her child in childbirth at home. Certainly a traumatic experience for a young woman who must learn to mourn in a particularly difficult family context. It looks like Vanessa Kirby is getting back to her first love with a tough and demanding film.

Then we saw her in Florian Zeller’s The Son last year, and she’s back for a few weeks in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part 1. Vanessa Kirby is definitely where we least expect her.
