Another case of racism has been recorded in Conmebol competitions. This time at the Fluminense match against Olimpia, at the Defensores del Chaco, in Asunción, Paraguay. After the classification of the Tricolore, the fans of the Paraguayan team were caught in the stands imitating the macados to provoke the Brazilians.

Fluminense fans responded by calling Olimpia fans “racists”. The hostile climate was also noticed when the ball was rolling. Forward Keno was hit by a bottle while celebrating John Kennedy’s goal, scored in the first half of the game. The player needed help and play was stopped for nearly five minutes.

Before the match started, a bus with Fluminense fans was pelted with stones on its way to the stadium. Nobody was hurt. The Tricolore will play again next Sunday, against Fortaleza, at Raulino de Oliveira.

Fluminense will only return to play Libertadores in the week of the 27th of this month. The semifinal opponent will be Internacional and the first match will be at the Maracanã. The team that qualifies will face either Palmeiras or Boca Juniors in the big decider.
