One Piece: We compared characters from the Netflix series and the anime

One Piece has over 100 volumes published at a regular pace since the saga began in 1997. Two years later, Toei Animation decided to adapt the adventures of Luffy and his friends into anime. The series, which has crossed the 1000-episode mark, has been delighting fans for more than 20 years.

When Netflix decided to start a live-action adaptation of One Piece in 2020, it was necessary to find actors who were physically close to the characters drawn by Eiichiro Oda and create a series as faithful as possible. If we believe the subscribers of the platform, the bet is more successful in this regard.

The writers, producers, and directors, all fans of One Piece, drew from the manga and anime to create the world of their series. From well-hidden easter eggs to character costumes and iconic locations that were custom-made, the teams allowed themselves to succeed thanks to a comfortable budget.

The shooting of the TV series took place mainly in South Africa. The Indian Ocean served as the setting to recreate the East Blue, the sea on which Luffy and his crew sailed. It was there that they created the full-sized Baratie, the restaurant ship that Sanji would command, as well as the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crew’s caravel.
