Jesse Plemons he took on the role of the police officer.
After a certain point, I realized how I was making a movie about all white guys. Which means I was taking an outside-in approach, which worried me.

“Before the rewrite, I had three pages of some pretty chatty dialogue,” he said. “But I was struggling so much with the scenes that when Covid-19 closed everything and the project went silent for a minute, I assumed I had ruined the test. About a year later, I got a Zoom request with Martin Scorsese. And then I got new material.”
Suddenly it was a scene with minimal dialogue… and I thought, ‘Oh man, I can insert a character here now. This is amazing.’ Because I heard that the rewrites turned 180°.
“The focus would have been on FBIwith Mollie It is Ernest being part of the supporting story, rather than the central story,” he continued.
