Adaptation of a manga

The Zom 100 animation is adapted from a manga of the same name written by Haro Aso. Currently, the story is in its 14th volume and continues to be a critical and sales success, although the latest volumes have suffered a decline in quality, according to fans. In Brazil the publication is still in its eleventh volume and is produced by Editora JBC.

Aso is also the creator of works such as Alice in Borderland, which was also adapted for television. In other words, the boy has already demonstrated his ability to create stories with a more adult flavor. Zom 100 soon arrives to try to be something different from the many other productions today involving zombies. The series features more acidic humor, as well as several criticisms of the working model of some companies in Japan.

Inventive story

In Zom 100 we follow the story of Akira Tendo, who finds himself trapped in a work routine that indirectly zombies his employees. The protagonist realizes that he has no time to have fun or do anything that brings him happiness. And that’s when a zombie apocalypse breaks out in Japan.

From this point on, the animation subverts expectations by positioning Akira as someone who begins to derive happiness from the zombie apocalypse once he feels free. However, he knows that the world is dangerous and sooner or later he will end it. And it is at this moment that he decides to write a list of things he wants to do before becoming a zombie.

Harsh and unsubtle criticism

Zom 100 has acid humor, but it doesn’t try to be subtle at all. The criticism of the Japanese job market is something completely ignored and used by the plot directly and even expressed by the characters.

However, fans point out that the anime manages to bring a good diversity of situations that reinforce the point that the production wants to underline. This is because, throughout his journey to complete his goals before becoming a zombie, Akira will meet and deal with people completely different from him.

Episodes still being released

Zom 100 arrived in the Netflix and Crunchyroll catalog in July and has been periodically releasing episodes since then. There are currently eight chapters available, with the ninth arriving on September 24th.

Initially, the season will consist of 12 episodes and the last three have not yet received an official release date. What can be said is that the anime has been quite successful and should receive a second season as soon as the first comes to an end.
