There are films whose success cannot be predicted or explained. This is the case of the troll, directed by Roar Uthaug (Tomb Raider), a Norwegian blockbuster released in December 2022 on the platform and whose brief description: after the awakening of this legendary monster, the authorities call on a daring paleontologist to prevent it from chaos.
In just a few weeks, the blockbuster hit the top of Netflix’s most-watched feature films. These figures seem to have convinced the American giant to give the green light for a sequel, if we are to believe variety. Roar Uthaug will return behind the camera for this new opus, again set in the Norwegian countryside.
This announcement is not really a surprise considering the ending of the first part, which already suggested the possibility of Trolls 2. While one of the main characters suggests that other creatures may still be alive, the final sequence revealed a new monster. The sequel is set to begin filming in 2024, with an estimated release date of 2025.
Despite the fairly good viewing figures, subscribers rated the Norwegian film quite harshly. This is evidenced by its above average rating of 2.3/55 on AlloCiné and 5.8/5 on IMDB. It remains to be seen if they will be around for Troll 2 and if it will dethrone the first installment… nothing is less certain.
