The ONS projection is that the month will close with consumption growth of 5.8%, with an increase in all regions
The high temperatures that have hit several Brazilian regions will have a direct effect on electricity consumption in the country, as estimated by Manager of the National Electricity System (ONS). The projection for the month of September is growth of 5.8%, with increases in all regions, according to a statement released by the agency.
The growth prospects in the submarkets are more significant in the North, with 10.6%. The area between the South-East and Central-West should record an increase of 6.1%, followed by the North-East, with 4.2%. In last place is the South, which is facing a period of heavy rain, with 3.8%. The percentages compare results as of the end of September 2023, compared to the same period last year.
“The load growth forecast for September is the highest in recent months, a reflection of more intense heat and also a more overheated economy,” says Luiz Carlos Ciocchi, director general of the ONS.
The city of St. Paul recorded this Saturday, 23rd, a new record for Maximum temperature in 2023. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), indicated the thermometers 34.8ºC at 4pm, which exceeded the 34.7ºC recorded last Friday, the 22nd, in the capital of Sao Paulo.
This was the fourth heat record in just ten days. Nine states are, until 6pm this Sunday, 24, on red alert of great danger with health risks.
The bulletin also includes stored energy analysis (EAR), which is expected to remain above 70% in three submarkets through the end of this month. The data is significant given that the typically dry period is nearing its end. The highest EAR is found in the South (85.2%), followed by the North (73.7%), South-East/Central-West (72.6%) and North-East (67.2%).
