Goalkeeper Rafael took charge upon his arrival at the start of the season and was rewarded with the Copa do Brasil title last Sunday. Although he conceded a goal in the 1-1 draw at Morumbi, the 34-year-old athlete’s balance is positive.
During Sao Paulo’s title campaign, Rafael was leaked in only four of the team’s 10 fixtures, according to data from SofaScore. In total, the archer has conceded seven goals in front of the Tricolore goal.
Present in all of the team’s matches in the Copa do Brasil, Rafael also put in a good performance in defence, scoring 23 and not letting in 77% of the balls that went towards his goal.
Despite not being known as a penalty taker, the goalkeeper’s one save made the difference for the club in the competition. He took Luciano Juba’s kick when San Paolo beat Sport on penalties in the round of 16.
Signed under the guidance of Rogério Ceni, Rafael went on to be selected for Dorival Júnior and became one of the spearheads of San Paolo in 2023. An absolute starter, he already has 52 appearances with the tricolor shirt.
