Supernatural ended three years ago after 15 seasons of good and faithful service. The fantasy series hosted by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles left many fans orphaned. That’s why the CW developed a prequel, this time about their parents, John and Mary Winchester. From the point of view of Dean (Eccles), The Winchesters tells the story of his parents’ love and how they risk everything to save not only their love, but the entire world.
The 13-episode first season premieres today on Prime Video with Warner Pass (available to those who subscribe). If Supernatural fans will find what they’re looking for with the return of some familiar faces, newcomers will also be able to watch it, even without having seen the parent series. As long as you like demon stories, of course. The Winchesters definitely use the same ingredients, between supernatural investigations and exorcisms.
Leaving behind Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles (who co-produces), the two actors this time make way for a young Meg Donnelly ( Zombies ) and Drake Rogers ( The In Between ) to play younger versions of Samantha Smith and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. But what made a big splash last year was the casting announcement of Tom Welling, the unforgettable Superman of Smallville, in the lead role.
Unfortunately for them, the Winchesters don’t last beyond season 1. Faced with disappointed audiences and mixed reviews, The CW chose not to continue the adventure.
