The best tiramisu in the world is Brazilian

Patricia Guerra won the World Cup held in Italy

By Luciana Ribeiro – The inspector of the State of São Paulo, Patricia Guerra, promised and kept: in her “sweet trip” to Italy, she used all the experience gained in recent months and her love for gastronomy to ensure the title of best tiramisu in the world.

With a faithful reproduction of the traditional Italian dessert, made with six basic ingredients – eggs, sugar, mascarpone, coffee, cocoa and the traditional ladyfinger biscuit -, the Brazilian won the 7th edition of the Tiramisù World Cup (TWC), held in Treviso, in northern Italy, between 5 and 8 October.

This is the first time in history that a foreign competitor has won the competition. “It’s the best feeling in the world.

This sweet journey began in 2022, with a lot of training and dedication.

And this victory is something I have always wanted, I have always dreamed of, but never in my dreams did I imagine it would be so exciting. It is one of the best moments of my life”, Guerra declared to ANSA after the victory. The magistrate, who began studying gastronomy in recent months, beat the Italians Stefano Storti, from Ferrara, and Elisabetta Zanette, from Treviso, and the Uruguayan Cielo Fitipaldi, from Montevideo.

“I trained a lot, I trained on the recipe, on the presentation, on the aesthetics, on the flavor. I started looking for all the ingredients that would be used on the day of the test, I made a technical visit to the competition site “I studied a lot and prepared a lot. They were days and nights of hard work,” she said.

For Guerra, “no recipe in the world thrives if it does not have love, joy, patience and faith”. “I have a lot of it. I believed in it, I counted on the people who were at my side and I had a lot of faith”, she concluded.

In addition to the Brazilian one, the competition also rewarded the best creative dessert recipe, which had to include mascarpone, eggs, coffee and cocoa, as well as three other ingredients chosen and paid for by the participant.

Originally from Quarto d’Altino, in the Veneto region, Mario De Santis, a 41-year-old employee of a fire prevention company, won the cup with the recipe for “Tiramisù Dalì”, which includes cinnamon, dark chocolate and quince jelly. The Italian beat the versions of the competitor Vanessa Orso, from Vicenza, with basil, lemon, chocolate orange and almonds; and Fabio Dall’Acqua, from Conegliano, with cinnamon, pine nuts and icing sugar.

The winners were chosen from 240 candidates by a jury made up of chefs, teachers and gastronomy experts, as well as winners of the 2022 edition.

“Tiramisu is increasingly becoming a ‘Made in Italy’ product in the world and we are proud to have participants from all nations with us. We have another record-breaking edition, with lots of enthusiasm from the competitors and great public participation. I am also very happy that the champion title was awarded for the first time to a foreign representative”, Francesco Redi, founder and organizer of the Tiramisù World Cup, told the Italian press.
