Palmeiras beats Corinthians and takes the lead in the semi-final of the Brazilian Under-17 Championship

It was a derby that seemed made for adults. Corinthians and Palmeiras played a sensational classic on Tuesday evening (10), in the first leg of the semi-final of the Brazilian Under 17 Championship. At Parque São Jorge, Verdão opened three goals up front with Erick Belé and Luighi (double), but Timão reacted with Bahia and Juninho. It took little time for the black and white kids to achieve what would have been a heroic result.

With the triumph away from home, Palmeiras only needs a draw on Sunday, at 6pm, at the Arena Barueri, to guarantee themselves a place in the decider. On the other hand, Corinthians tries to win with at least a one goal difference to force the dispute to penalties

In the other semi-final, Sao Paulo and Flamengo will compete for the other place in the final. The first match between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will be this Wednesday, at 7.15pm, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in the city of Volta Redonda.

The game

Favorites for the clash, Palmeiras dominated the first phase after their bitter rival created good chances with Guilherme Henrique in the opening minutes. Coming into its own, Verdão opened the scoring after an error, which saw the ball deflected by the referee. So Belé took advantage of a rebound from goalkeeper Matheus Corrêa. With the lead, the Alviverde team continues to exploit Alvinegro’s flaws and hits the post on two occasions.

Corinthians, after conceding a controversial goal before the break, returned even more agitated and saw Palmeiras center forward Luighi score twice in the two-minute interval. In both situations, the home team complained of a foul, first on Pellegrin, then on Guilherme Henrique. But in the Brasileirão U17 there is no use of VAR.

Despite his dissatisfaction, Timão found the strength to react with Bahia, with a free kick, and Juninho, completing a cross. In the final, Yago Gonçalves was sent off and injured Corinthians, who left the pitch defeated.
