Rick and Morty Season 7: The Voices of the Main Characters Have Changed, Here’s Why!

Starting this Monday, October 16, Ricky and Morty returns to Adult Swim with the start of the irreverent series’ seventh season. What adventure will mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith embark on this time?

A priori nothing has changed for the two still crazy heroes. Still, Season 7 marks a brand new start for the series, as the two characters switch interpreters during these new, unaired episodes.

The change, which only affects the original version of the program and which follows the dismissal of one of the creators of Rick and Morty.

It is necessary to remind the facts. In January of last year, several American media revealed that the co-creator of the series, Justin Roiland, was the subject of a complaint of domestic violence by an ex-partner.

In the days following this announcement, several of his employees spoke publicly. Not to condemn facts of the same nature, but to blame the screenwriter for not being present, but for creating a toxic and hostile work environment.

On bad terms with Rick and Morty’s other creator, Dan Harmon (they hadn’t spoken to each other in years), Justin Roiland decided to no longer attend the series’ writing meetings. Therefore, the last four seasons of the program were written and developed without him!

New artists for Rick and Morty!

Therefore, his participation in Rick and Morty was exclusively due to his work as a voice actor, as the characters of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith were both voiced by Justin Roiland in the original version.

Despite the charges being dropped “lack of evidence”These multiple revelations convinced the cable channel Adult Swim to end its partnership with Justin Roiland. A decision that has no consequences for the writing of the series, but which forces the production to find new actors to double the two main roles.

After much research, two new voice actors were finally found (which means Rick and Morty will now be voiced by two different actors). For reasons still unknown, Adult Swim is not disclosing the names of the lucky winners.

However, the channel wanted to clarify that it is not AI, as some netizens believed due to the identical tone of voice of this new dub compared to Justin Roiland’s previous Rick and Morty seasons.

Thus, this change should not bother American fans, nor French viewers who are fans of the original version. It should be noted here that the VF dubbing will remain the same as in previous seasons.

All seven seasons of Rick and Morty can be seen exclusively on Adult Swim, available on Prime Video with a Warner Pass subscription.
