kidnapping

Although Stephen Graham started his career at a young age, he became known to the general public thanks to his role in Snatch. He plays Tommy, one of the organizers of underground boxing. A character he could never portray on screen.

In 2020, when he was invited to the set of the show There’s something about moviesThe actor revealed how Guy Ritchie gave him the role. That day, Graham accompanied one of his friends to an audition for the director’s next project.

While he was waiting in the hallway, the principal saw him and asked him if he was testing fate. To which the actor replied “No”. Perhaps fascinated by the Leicester accent (even though he has a few), Richie suggests that he at least audition and submit the script.

Problem? Graham is dyslexic and therefore cannot read the given passage. In order not to be punished, Richie suggests that he improvise. And what he saw seemed to convince him enough to immediately give him the role…

Irish

Those who have seen The Irishman, Martin Scorsese’s feature film, probably don’t remember seeing Stephen Graham in it. And for good reason. With his hairdos, fake tan and Gucci sunglasses, the English actor disguises himself as Anthony Provenzano, the capo of the New Jersey faction of the Genovese crime family.

We especially see him in this partially improvised scene where he meets Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and Frank Sheeran (De Niro). This isn’t her first collaboration with the man she affectionately calls “Monty.”

The latter chose him in the 2010s to protect Al Capone’s shoes in Boardwalk Empire. Since then, the roles of gangsters and villains have accompanied him.

Matilda, the musical

Stephen Graham knows how to surprise when necessary, with much lighter roles and for which he does not hesitate to “disguise”. He proves with Matilda in 2022 that he excels in drama as well as comedy (and singing!) by slipping into the shoes of the eccentric character of Mr. Wormwood, the heroine’s very good-looking father.

If he got the role, it was to please his daughter: “He and my wife told me they were going to turn me down if I didn’t agree to be in it because they are big fans of the musical.“.
