The average price of petrol drops by 0.88%, to R$5.69 per litre

This week’s drop is due to the 4.1% discount granted by Petrobras on the 19th on prices charged in refineries

RIO – The average price of Gas at petrol stations across the country there was a drop of 0.8%, to R$5.69 per litre, in the week between 22 and 28 October. On average, in the previous seven days, petrol cost the final consumer R$ 5.74. The information comes from National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). This week’s decline is driven by the 4.1% discount granted by Petrobras on the 19th on prices applied to refineries.

Ninth week of autumn

It was the ninth consecutive week of decline in petrol, after the peak of R$ 5.88 per liter in the penultimate week of August, then motivated by the 16.3% increase applied on August 15 by Petrobras in the prices charged in its refineries. Since then, the price of gasoline at the pumps has fallen again due to the decline in prices of anhydrous ethanol, which makes up 27.5% of the gasoline blend and, in the last week, in particular due to another adjustment from part of Petrobras in the value of gasoline, this time decreasing (-4.1%). Added to this situation of falling prices at the pump are natural accommodations linked to the competitive logic of retail trade.

Falling anhydrous

As regards anhydrous ethanol, data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics of the Higher School of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo (Cepea/Esalq-USP) show a drop in prices of 2.3% in the plants of San Paolo in the last nine weeks.

In the week ending Friday 27th, anhydrous prices fell again, but close to stability (-0.17%), at R$ 2.47 per liter. Since April, the USP has indicated a 25% decline in input prices, which has helped keep retail gasoline prices down.
