The Hollywood Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) rejected on Monday (6) the final settlement proposal from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents film studios in the United States. According to Deadline, the refusal would mean that negotiations could be suspended until January 2024, prolonging the strike which has already lasted for more than 110 days.
This morning, our negotiators formally responded to the AMPTP’s “Last, Best and Final” offer. Please know that all members of our TV/Theatre Negotiating Committee are determined to secure the right deal and therefore bring this strike to a responsible end.
There are several key elements that we do not yet have agreement on, including artificial intelligence. We will keep you updated as events unfold.
In October, while also trying to negotiate, the AMPTP stated that the distance between the parties is “very wide”, and the class proposal represents the biggest obstacle to ending the strike. For the union the studios use “scare tactics” and abandoned the negotiations without even countering the last offer of the class.
In addition to AI issues, another important point under discussion is residual payments. It is worth mentioning that the theme was the key point in ending the writers’ strike.
Officially closed at the beginning of October, the union representing the category (WGA) has returned to work after an agreement that provides for a payment of 5 million dollars a year by the studios.
