Red Bull Bragantino will have to decide this Sunday in the Brasileirão 2023 against league leaders Botafogo. Only one point separates the Bragança Paulista team from first place, so midfielder Matheus Fernandes underlines the importance of the home duel for the future of the competition.
“This match puts us directly in the fight for the title”, defined the athlete, highlighting the opponent’s strengths. “I see Botafogo with a very strong counterattack. They always work the ball well from behind, trying to attack the space behind. One of the things we have to be well aware of in the match is not to give up that space”, he added.
The match against Botafogo will be special for Matheus Fernandes. The 25-year-old midfielder started his professional career with the Rio de Janeiro club and played 85 matches for Fogão’s main team until 2018.
“It’s the team that formed me, it makes me very happy to do well and to be able to face Botafogo. The title is worth it. Both teams need and want to win”, underlined Matheus Fernandes.
Both Bragantino and Botafogo seek rehabilitation in the Brasileirão 2023. The São Paulo team lost to São Paulo in the last round in Vila Belmiro, while the Rio teams remained winless for five rounds.
