The fighter Alex Poatan he became the first Brazilian since then Glover Teixeira, to win the light heavyweight belt of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Saturday 11th, in New York, at Madison Square Garden. In a battle against the Czech Jiri Prochazkathe Brazilian scored a technical knockout in the second round and made history.
The fight started evenly, with both fighters exchanging blows. Poatan kicks at the Czech’s legs, but Prochazka he managed to take the fight to the ground and had the best performance in the first round.
In the second round, the Brazilian regained control of the fight with more kicks to Prochazka’s legs. The Czech responded with a few shots, but Poatan landed two crosses and finished the match with a series of elbows, winning the belt.
In the clash, 70 shots were exchanged, of which 44 were from Prochazka, with an accuracy of 63%. Poatan responded with 49 shots, for an accuracy total of 68%. In terms of significant strikes, the Czech landed 30 with 57% accuracy, while the Brazilian landed 38 with 62% accuracy, including one takedown.
Now, Alex Poatan is part of the small group of Brazilians who have won belts in two different UFC categories, together with the famous Amanda Nunes.
