Intel Core i9-14900HX has performance equal to 13900HX


The Intel Core i9-14900HX’s performance has been leaked in Geekbench 6, revealing a score nearly identical to its predecessor, the Core i9-13900HX

A Intel has already discreetly confirmed that the Raptor Lake Refresh processors will be released for mobile platforms in the near future. Now, a leak in the Geekbench 6 database points to what appears to be a synthetic benchmark of the Intel Core i9-14900HX, with performance very close to its direct predecessor.



The test was performed on an as yet unannounced Predator Helios 16 notebook from Acer. The laptop features a 24 core and 32 thread CPU, a base clock of 2.3 Ghz and boost up to 5.5 Ghz, very similar to what is present on the Core i9-14900K Desktop. Furthermore, the system is equipped with 32 GB of DDR5 RAM at almost 5,600 MT/s and a GeForce RTX 4080.

The upcoming Core i9-14900HX scores 2,998 points in single-core and 17,937 in multi-core, achieving a 3% and 2% larger performance jump over the current-generation Core i9-13900HX, respectively. Compared to the i9-14900K for desktop computers, the notebook version is 6% lower in single-core and up to 16% lower in multi-core.

The new generation should have few advantages

As for the unlocked desktop model for overclock, this is an expected movement in the world of hardware, as notebooks have less space and significantly reduced power consumption. To get an idea, the Core i9-14900HX must have a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 55W, while its counterpart is configured at 125W by default, generating a difference of 127%.

However, the competition with the Core i9-13900HX leaves a lot to be desired. The new CPU did not achieve differences even close to 5% in the benchmarks, proving that the generation difference between the 13th and 14th should remain small. However, it is worth remembering that the tests were possibly carried out with samples without drivers and complete optimization, influencing the result.

There are still questions about when Intel will reveal Raptor Lake Refresh for notebooks. The company is planning an event in December shows more information about the Meteor Lake and Sierra Forest generationsbut the strongest bet for the 14th generation is that the launch will take place at CES 2024.
