Mona Achache’s mother, Carol Achache, committed suicide on March 1, 2016 without leaving a note. In his basement he kept 25 plastic boxes containing thousands of letters and photographs, sorted correspondence, notebooks and annotated diaries: a colossal family archive that he had already explored while writing a book about his own mother… who he had. He wrote about his mother.
The director confides: “I wanted to know what could have led my mother to the process of deterioration that she later plunged into. Very quickly I discovered an incredible life and character.“

Marion Cotillard immediately wanted to participate in the adventure: “It was quite a special, individual scenario, with absolute fluidity and simplicity despite its composite nature, already with numerous photographs. fiction? Synchronization work
Marion Cotillard dubbed many passages of Carroll’s original voice-recorded lyrics:There was this dubbing job, and another one that consisted of finding Carroll’s voice through monologues taken exclusively from his writings. However, the transition from sync to my voice had to be fluid.
This is the whole point of the incarnation. And that’s what I like: manages to completely disappear behind the character and we only see him, to the point where we believe in this film, in the character, in the voice, without seeing any artificial work in it.
