Superhero Magnum (Wonder Man) will be the next Marvel character to bring his series to the Disney + platform.

The project is produced by Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” who has teamed up with screenwriter Andrew Guest (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) to direct the attraction.

The host will be the lead writer of the series, while Cretton will be the executive producer and possibly direct one or more episodes.

The project is part of a production deal signed between Cretton and Marvel Studios, signed at the end of last year at the height of the success of “Shang-Chi”.

Still in the early stages, registration is not expected to start before 2023.

Created in 1964 by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Don Heck, Simon Williams (Magnum’s identity) emerged as Baron Zemo’s henchman, but was reconfigured in the 1970s as a hero (and one of the Avengers), until he began to use his super strength working as a stuntman and Hollywood action movie star.

While in Avengers, the character also developed strong bonds with Vision and Wanda, the Scarlet Witch. The stories even suggested that Magnum and Vision were practically brothers. He also developed feelings for Wanda after the Vision was dismantled.

It is not yet clear which phase of the character the Disney + series will face. But it’s worth mentioning that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” even filmed – and then discarded – a scene full of movie posters in which actor Nathan Fillion (“Castle”, “The Rookie”) appeared as protagonist Simon Williams. Fillion ended up playing the character only as a voice actor, in the animated series “MODOK” – which is not officially part of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Following the recent release of “Ms. Marvel”, the next Marvel series will be “She-Hulk” in August, “Secret Invasion” with Samuel L. Jackson and “Ironheart”, both scheduled for the end of the year. In addition, there is a second season of “Loki” in order and the development of a new “Daredevil” series.

In addition to this project, Cretton is currently working on a sequel to “Shang-Chi” and will direct and produce a series based on the “American Born Chinese” graphic novel for Disney +.
