5. Hunter X Hunter
The anime is set in a universe where anyone can become a real killer, no matter if they are children, teenagers, adults or the elderly. Following this logic, we quickly come across several characters, of different ages, who demonstrate extremely high combat power –– and most of them have something in common: becoming a hunter.
To do this, they will have to take a test that requires all their physical and mental capacity to obtain the title of hunter and carry out missions around the world. The protagonist of this story is twelve-year-old Gon, who wants to become a hunter to find his father and, along the way, meets other candidates who will become his best friends, called Leório, Kurapika and Killua.
4. Chronicle of Ragnarok
Of all the animations on this list, this anime is perhaps the most diverse. This is because it concentrates, in one place, different religious and philosophical influences, covering Catholic, Hindu, Greek and Nordic themes.
In essence, humanity has already caused too much damage on Earth and the gods (of all religions) gather in the same place to decide the beginning of the apocalypse that will end life on the planet. However, before they can accomplish this feat, the Valkyries, supernatural beings from Norse mythology, pose a challenge: the battle of Ragnarok.
In other words, the gods must face humans in hand-to-hand combat in an arena until one side emerges victorious. If humans lose, they will be destroyed; but if they win, they will avoid the apocalypse on Earth. With this, we are introduced to the fierce battles between divine entities and some of the most powerful humans to ever exist.
3. Baki
This anime has two versions on Netflix, the first released in 2020 and titled “Baki: The Champion”, and the second released in 2023, whose title is “Baki Hanma”. Both tell the story of the character Baki, a martial arts fighter who needs to train a lot and gain as much fighting experience as possible to overcome his father’s legacy.
In the first anime we see in more detail the training he is willing to undergo. In this, he must face five criminals, sentenced to the death penalty, who travel to Tokyo to kill him. In the second, we follow Baki’s journey to a state prison in Arizona (USA), where he went to gain further combat experience.
2. Kengan Ashura
In a world of crime and gangs, where illicit dealings are quite common, many disagreements can occur between representatives of different criminal schemes. But instead of shooting at each other, they prefer to organize an underground fighting tournament to solve their problems.
This is how the fighter Tokita Ohma enters this world: despite the money, all he wants is to beat others. Both he and the other fighters are gathered in a secret space and become the direct representatives of the crime bosses. Their mission is no surprise: they must use any means necessary to eliminate their opponent, mercilessly, without hesitation.
1. Cowboy Bebop
In a world where intergalactic travel is possible and work as a bounty hunter is legal, we are introduced to the main character Spike Spiegel: a former criminal who was part of the Red Dragon Syndicate gang, but who faked his death to leave the organization after falling in love with a woman named Julia.
He now commands the crew of the starship Bebop as they travel across the galaxy to hunt down and capture criminals wanted by justice departments. In addition to him, the team includes the ex-police officer Jet Black, the hacker Ed and the agile Faye Valentine.
