After winning an Oscar in 2004 for her role in Monster (a film for which she had to gain several pounds, which she recently said she no longer wanted to do), South African actress Charlize Theron nearly won the coveted statue a year later.
Indeed, as he stated in a July 2017 podcast The Howard Stern ShowThe upcoming Furiosa from Mad Max Fury Road (whose character will soon be portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy) was originally chosen to play the lead role in Chicago, a musical comedy directed by Rob Marshall in 2003 that won 6 Oscars (including Best Picture).
Unfortunately for him, a production upheaval caused him to be dropped before filming began.
“I was tied to Chicago for a while”– said Charlize Theron at Howard Stern’s microphone.
“I really wanted to – I have been dancing for most of my life and I was really nostalgic for this film. I was kicked out. The director kicked me out. I was really disappointed with this. I think it’s because they took me, I told myself that I was going to make a film, and then they kicked me out.”
While still on Stern’s mic, the actress also revealed that she was due to play the character of Roxie Hart – the heroine of the film, who is accused of murdering her lover and sent to prison – and that she was fired from the project “A. Change of director:
“Another director was attached And he chose me. This director was fired and The new director they hired didn’t want to make the film with me. I got to play Renee Zellweger, who, by the way, did an incredible job. So yeah, I really envy her for that, I’ve watched that movie so many times.”
