The artist Yuri Bastos, known as Linear wave, one of the greatest producers of the Lo-fi genre in the world, died this Wednesday, aged 6, at the age of 33. The death was confirmed by the advisor who managed the DJ’s career through a post on social media. He was admitted to the Santa Catarina hospital, in Sao Paulo, and died due to lung cancer.

According to the note released by the press office, Yuri studied musical composition at the Sao Paulo State School of Music (EMESP) and, at the beginning of his career, dreamed of working in an orchestra. The Linearwave project was created by him in 2018. According to the team, the artist has become the largest Lo-fi producer in Latin America and one of the largest in the world.

With more than 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, he has created songs with references to genres such as bossa nova, electronic music, hip-hop and ambient music. The note adds that, with the songs, Yuri tried to “bring the listener to a moment of peace, in which it was possible to forget the madness of the contemporary world and relax for a few minutes”.

Lo-fi has become popular, especially during the pandemic and is known as a genre used to help concentration and control anxiety. The term comes from the expression low fidelity (low fidelity, in Portuguese) and the songs are created by independent artists and made available on the Internet.
