Disney+ has revealed its slate of programming for 2024, listing all the series expected on the platform, including the new Star Wars Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte, as well as series from Marvel Studios Echo and Agatha Harkness. But Andor season 2 does not appear in this program.
According to several specialized sites (cited Soon), the postponement of Andor’s second season is a direct result of the writers’ and actors’ strike, which prevented the series from starting filming this fall as planned.
While a filming date has yet to be announced, it seems unlikely – if not downright impossible – that filming and post-production could be completed in a short enough time frame to air in late 2024.
Designed as a prequel to the film Rogue One, the series traces the beginnings of the rebellion that Princess Leia would lead several years later. The main character of the show is Cassian Andor, a mercenary who gradually joined the fight against the intergalactic empire.
Breaking the tone of other Star Wars films with its dark and realistic approach, Andor has been a huge hit with fans of the franchise. To the point that some have described it as “the best Star Wars production since The Empire Strikes Back”.
Developed by Jon Watts, director of the Spider-Man trilogy along with Tom Holland, Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. The series follows a group formed by teenagers and pays homage to family films of the 80s (The Goonies, Stand By Me…).
Set several centuries before the prologue, The Acolyte features a protagonist who has gone to the dark side for the first time in the saga’s history. The series is set in the final years of the High Republic, a timeline familiar to fans of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
The first season of Andor is now available exclusively on Disney+.
