“The world was his canvas“
For nearly 30 years, artist Carl Nargley (Owen Wilson) has hosted a television show where he introduces viewers to the basics of painting. When the chain that employs him hires a younger, better artist, Carl’s career declines. But it is far from the last word!
If these few lines and pictures mean something to you, that’s okay. The character of Carl Nargley, from his attitude to his clothes to his recognizable drawings, is very much inspired by a man who really existed: Bob Ross.
where did you see Probably on a social network. Indeed, long after his death in 1995, the artist became a viral phenomenon thanks to images from the iconic archive of his show. In short, A Even.

Many people know EvenA legend, but do you know the story of Bob Ross?
Artist, meme, legend!
Born in the United States in the 1940s, Bob Ross was not destined for the visual arts from an early age. Indeed, while he was growing up in Florida, he fell in love with nature, fauna and flora, which became his passion.
To see the country, Bob Ross decides to join the army and finds himself far from home in Alaska. Despite a brilliant career in military aviation, he is still disillusioned with the authority imposed by responsibility and prefers to spend his free time contemplating the frozen landscapes that surround him.
It was during this period that his passion for painting developed in the workshop, which was represented in his works. He then decided to cultivate his gift, nourishing himself with books and programs on the subject, before finally leaving the army to devote himself to painting.

In 1982, Bob Ross managed to convince the WNVC channel that he trusted him and called for a pilot show called The Joy of Painting. Fortunately, Ross’ sweet and warm personality appeals to the show’s avid viewers.
He stayed on the air for more than 10 years, or 31 seasons and 403 episodes, during which he painted more than 30,000 paintings of his favorite subject: North American landscapes.
If Paint deals a lot with the life of Bob Ross, and Carl Nargle’s character seems to drift away from him as the story progresses, the film still manages to honor the intense passion that animated his model and look at him in a new light. This, thanks to a particularly populous (and extraordinary) performance of the essence Owen Wilson.
Paint is available now, exclusively on Prime Video.
