This Wednesday, the group stage of Champions League. Of the 32 participants, 16 remain in the competition and will compete in the round of 16. In exchange, eight clubs will be moved to the Europa League and will take to the field at the beginning of 2024 to play in the playoffs. Eight other teams are eliminated and are limited to national competitions.
For the round of 16 of the Champions League, UEFA will organize a draw which will define the crosses of the 16 teams. By regulation, the first-placed teams cannot face each other. Matches between teams from the same group and between teams from the same country are also prohibited.
The draw for the next stages of the European competitions will take place on Monday at 8am (Brasilia time). The first matches of the Champions League round of 16 will be played on 13, 14, 20 and 21 February. The return matches are scheduled for 5, 6, 12 and 13 March.
The next edition of the Champions League will see changes to the format. Therefore, the traditional group stage will no longer exist. The 36 teams will be reunited in a single group and will face eight opponents to define a ranking that will order the direct elimination matches in the subsequent phases.
