The Crown Season 6: What’s the Netflix Series Finale Worth?

In 2016, Netflix released The Crown, a historical series that focused on the story of Elizabeth II’s reign after she came to power at the age of 25. Peter Morgan, a specialist in the monarchy to whom we also owe the Queen, along with his armada of screenwriters and historians, has drawn from the archives the history of this new era of the British royal family.

If the first seasons of The Crown got everyone together – especially with excellent performances from Claire Foy and Olivia Colman – the last two were clearly a notch below.

By becoming more modern and too involved in the intimacy of the characters, the series lost itself in unrelatable assumptions.

Worse, by making Diana Spencer the star of the series at the Queen’s expense – and although Elizabeth Debic’s interpretation is impeccable – the crown has lost its essence. The first part of the 6th season, which is dedicated to him, was not liked by everyone.

If it was necessary to talk about his terrible car accident, certain choices of the script made people upset. By presenting a fictitious (and as sweet as possible) conversation between Diana’s ghost and the future king, then the former princess and queen, the screenwriters broke the trust agreement that bound them to the audience.

Good part 2

That’s why they were waiting for the last part of the 6th season. Now that Diana’s story is behind her, the Crown is getting back to what it does best: messing up the Queen and her monarchy. And as such, these last 6 episodes are a success.

As the Queen grows older and doubts her place in the country more than ever, she shows how “her business” plays an important role. Episode 6, which highlights the different professions, is a beautiful declaration of love and a beautiful token of respect from Peter Morgan, who has become a Royalist over the years.

Even while rushing to report on the major political events of recent years (9/11, the entry into the war against Iraq, etc.), the crown does not forget the essentials: it talks about the tragedies that shook the power. As such, the episode centered on the death of Princess Margaret is both tender and poignant.

The intrigue surrounding William and Kate’s love affair takes second place – as do Harry’s escapades, and it’s all the better. The Crown is Elizabeth II and it’s a real treat to see her back in the spotlight.

As we know, the Queen’s death in September 2022 forced the writers to change the ending of the series. And we thank them for that. The final episode is the best tribute the Crown can offer to the former monarch. Imelda Staunton also gives her best performance.

If the last seasons of The Crown have dropped in quality, the Netflix series still remains at a special level. It will leave its mark on the audiovisual landscape and millions of viewers.
