According to the Forbes ranking, the chocolate magnate has 39.1 billion dollars
By Maria Gabriella Giannice – In 2023, the war in Ukraine has increased the price of gas and left Italian homes cold. Inflation has strangled shopping carts. Rising interest rates have made it impossible for many to access a mortgage loan. But the rich are getting richer.
The scenario is certified by the Forbes ranking of Italian billionaires, which lists 70 billionaires. Their total fortunes stand at $230.1 billion, nearly $70 billion more than at the end of 2022.
A 30% increase is not bad at all, considering that a 10-year BTP increases capital by around 4% per year.
Also this year Giovanni Ferrero confirmed himself as the richest man in Italy, with assets of 39.1 billion dollars.
But the Italian club this year has expanded by 20 more people than last year, reaching a new record of 70 billionaires.
“Mister Nutella” (or “Mister Ferrero Rocher”, depending on your taste) also stands out in the world ranking, occupying 32nd place and fifth in Europe, behind the masters of the LVMH empires (Bernard Arnault), Zara (Amancio Ortega), L’Oréal (Françoise Bettencourt Meyers) and Lidl/Kaufland (Dieter Schwarz).
In second place in Italy is Giorgio Armani, with assets of 12.9 billion dollars, equal to less than a third of that of Ferrero. For the first time the podium is completed by Piero Ferrari, son of the founder Enzo, with 7.6 billion dollars.
In fourth place there is a woman, Massimiliana Landini Aleotti, owner of the pharmaceutical company Menarini, with assets of 6.8 billion dollars. Close behind is Sergio Stevanato, president emeritus of the Stevanato Group, who has amassed a fortune of 6.7 dollars thanks to glass vials and insulin pen cartridges (sold all over the world).
All three billionaires on the podium are richer than they were last year. Ferrero’s assets increased by $4.5 billion compared to the previous year. Thanks to the growth of his group, which in the latest balance sheet, published in February, saw revenues rise to 14 billion, with an increase of 10.4% compared to the previous year. These are the results that led Ferrero to award employees a bonus of up to 2,450 euros on their October salaries.
Armani has 6 billion dollars more than a year ago. Ferrari has seen its fortune increase by more than $3 billion in the past 12 months, thanks to a 61% rise in the automaker’s shares, of which it owns about 10%.
In sixth place are the spouses Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli (4.5 billion dollars), followed by Giuseppe De’Longhi (4.4 billion dollars). In ninth place is Giuseppe Crippa ($4.1 billion), founder of Technoprobe, one of the world’s two largest manufacturers of microchip test cards.
Closing the top 10, in 10th place, we find 11 billionaires on equal merit, all with assets of 4 billion dollars. Including the eight heirs of Leonardo Del Vecchio: his children Claudio, Clemente, Leonardo, Luca, Marisa and Paola, his widow Nicoletta Zampillo, and Rocco Basilico, born from Zampillo’s previous marriage to the banker Paolo Basilico.
Also worth 4 billion dollars are the builder and publisher Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone, the president of the Campari Group, Luca Garavoglia, and the new name that occupies the first position in the ranking: Giancarlo Devasini, financial director of Tether, a stablecoin based in the United States. British Virgin Islands.
Among Berlusconi’s heirs, Marina and Pier Silvio are in 38th place, while Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi are in 67th.
