In 2024, the One Piece anime will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. Launched on Japan’s Fuji TV on October 20, 1999, Eiichiro Oda’s manga adaptation (106 volumes available from Glénat) has continued to impress, with over 1,000 episodes now an hour and no fewer than fifteen spin-offs. Movies.

This year, the One Piece saga welcomed its first live-action film. The first season of this version, directed by Oda, was a success on Netflix and has been renewed for a second season, which has already been written and is set to start filming soon.

Jump Festa took place this weekend in Japan, an annual event organized by publishing house Shueisha to promote its most popular series. Among those offered this year, the One Piece panel was the most fan-favorite.

Get back to basics

Many have been waiting for the announcement of a new animated film or information provided by Eiichiro Oda on the manga’s next narrative arc. But finally an entirely new animated series will see the light of day, led by Studio Wit (Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, etc.).

Thus, the series produced by Netflix depicts the beginning of Luffy’s adventures, from the East Blue saga and meeting his future teammates: Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji. Titled The One Piece , the series released its first poster this weekend, as well as a short teaser that doesn’t reveal any official images.

No release date has been announced at this time.

Rediscovering the One Piece myth in a new version, or starting to discover the anime, such will be the double possibility offered by Netflix, which with this announcement signs a completely unexpected media revolution.
