“35 years ago, glory released in cinemas. The box office was fair. Reviews were mixed to good. He was nominated for five Oscars and won two. Of all my films, success or failure, this is the most enduring. In the end, only one measure matters: time. Those are the words of director Edward Zwick, released this weekend his account (formerly Twitter).

If Zwick’s work, unfortunately, did not reach the French box office, attracting only 162,000 viewers, it was not really a triumph at the world box office, only about more than 26 million dollars.

A cruel injustice to a powerful work. Telling the true and moving story of the first regiment of black soldiers during the Civil War, the film is lavishly directed by veteran and formidable director Freddie Francis, who deservedly won an Oscar for his work.

The production also features a stellar cast: Matthew Broderick as Colonel Gould Shaw; Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington. In the guise of a rebel soldier’s tripe, the latter here delivers a memorable composition that won an Oscar for best supporting actor.

Surrounded by a brilliant score by James Horner, glory Simply one of the best films ever made about a bloody episode of the Civil War. We can only agree with the filmmaker: time has thankfully done its job, raising his film to the status of an absolute classic. To watch or re-watch on Netflix.
