Quentin Tarantino gave up on ‘Star Trek’, you understand why

Rumors about a possible film in the saga Star Trek directed by Quentin Tarantino have been around since at least 2017. However, the project never materialized and now we know why.

Screenwriter Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant”) revealed this in an interview with the portal Collider that he and Tarantino had many discussions about the plot. However, the director ended up giving up on the project.

According to Mark, the idea came about after an episode of “A Piece of the Action,” from the original “Star Trek” series, in which the Enterprise arrives on a planet where the local population lives a gangster lifestyle.

It was a really different kind of story that Quentin wanted to tell with him, which suited my kind of sensibilities.

However, after discussions, Tarantino withdrew from the project because he did not want “Star Trek” to be his last film. It is worth noting that the director has stated that he will only direct 10 more films before retiring.

Quentin began to worry about the numbers, the unofficial number of films. He said, “If I accept that Star Trek is my last movie, is this how I want to end it?” I think that’s what he never got over.

What would the movie have been?

On the other hand, Smith claims that Tarantino’s film would have been a huge success. Furthermore, he would have the support of writer JJ Abrams and the production of Bad Robot. He didn’t reveal many details about the project, but said that it will basically be a gangster story set in the Star Trek universe. In short, a mixture of “violent” and “funny” films, the director’s trademark.

It would be the best Star Trek movie, not because of my writing, but simply because of what Tarantino would do with it.

Smith also added that Tarantino spoke highly of the project and that he would like to see it made one day: “The script is on his desk somewhere,” he commented.

Quentin Tarantino’s tenth film

Although the Tarantino-directed Star Trek film never got off the ground, the director has announced that his tenth and final film will be “The Movie Critic.” The plot takes place in 1977 California, telling the story of a protagonist who is not a renowned film critic, but who writes for pornographic magazines.

The film is based on a man who actually lived, but never achieved fame, and used to write movie reviews for a porn magazine.

While Tarantino may be stepping away from the big screen after “The Movie Critic,” he has already made it clear that his work will continue off the film set.
