Remember the case

Clesiane was hit in the head from a piece of concrete that fell from a pole on December 3. The 34-year-old businesswoman had a fracture and sinking of the skull due to the accident and needed surgery.

The accident occurred around 12pm, when the couple had gone for a walk by the sea and decided to sit at a kiosk to have lunch. While Clesiane and João Martinez were looking to see if there was a table to sit at in the restaurant, the accident happened.

“At that moment I heard a very muffled shot and I saw a stone fall after hitting my wife, and she fall to the ground,” the husband explained at the time. Initially he thought that someone had thrown a stone, but later the people who stopped to help him told him that, in reality, a piece of the pole had fallen on his wife.

He reports that his head was bleeding heavily. Emergency services were called and it took at least 20 minutes before the firefighters took her to the State Emergency and Emergency Hospital (HEUE), in Vitória.

At the unit, it was examined and stitched. When she went to visit Clesiane, her husband saw that she had already been discharged. He then questioned the doctor, who informed him that no further tests would be necessary, as it was “not worth the risk”. According to him, they didn’t even do an ultrasound to check if the baby was okay.

João left the unit with his wife, took her home so she could shower and eat something, before taking her to a private hospital. While she was bathing her, the woman fainted.

They subsequently went directly to the Meridional Hospital, in Vitória. At the unit, she underwent an MRI, which revealed a fractured and sunken skull. “This was putting pressure on her legs until they were numb and causing her to lose mobility,” João explained.
