Summer begins with thunderstorms in Brazil

The new season kicked off in the early hours of this Friday, December 22nd. Watch!

The summer solstice occurred this Friday morning, at 00:27 Brasilia time. First day of the new season, with a lot of humidity in the central areas of the country.

We will have warm and humid air, favoring heavy clouds in the North and Central-West of Brazil, in addition to the action of a depression, which will influence the increase in humidity in the South-East.

In the South, showers will be strongest in the west and north-west of the RS and in part of the interior of the Region. The rains begin to decrease in the hinterland and interior of the Northeast, but continue in the form of showers in the west of Bahia and Maranhão.

Southern region

The circulation of winds and the action of an offshore depression near the Region increase the conditions of heavy rain in the west and north-west of Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Paraná and in the west and south of Santa Catarina. First day of summer, with suffocating air, beautiful sunshine, but with a lot of humidity. More concentrated rain is likely in the afternoon in the capitals Curitiba, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre. In the far south of Rio Grande do Sul it simply does not rain, but cloud cover persists throughout the day.

South-eastern region

The action of an offshore trough at RJ, conveys a little more moisture to the Southeast region this Friday and the week ends with stronger showers in the Grande Rio, Lagos region, at south of Minas and in the Vale do Paraíba, in São Paulo. The BH region is under a thunderstorm warning due to the combination of heat and the entry of increased moisture. It is raining heavily in the interior of SP, with showers that may start in the morning at the border with the state of Minas Gerais. In Vitória the sun comes out and it rains in the afternoon with the risk of thunderstorms. The entire region remains hot, with a stuffy feeling.

Midwest Region

Very typical early season summer characteristics in the Midwest. All capitals and the Federal District are subject to rain showers throughout the day; with the greatest risk of thunderstorms, for Brasilia, Goiânia and Cuiabá. In Campo Grande the rain will be even more concentrated between the middle and end of the day, and may arrive more irregularly, but the border of MS, with GO and MT, may receive slightly greater accumulations.

North-East Region

On this first day of summer the rain begins to weaken in the Region. The sun already appears in greater numbers in the capitals and the possibility of moderate to heavy showers is concentrated on the central-north of MA, south of PI, west of BA, and may occur more between the afternoon and night. In the south of Bahia, possibility of moderate rain in the early hours of the day in Ilhéus and Porto Seguro, but little by little the weather opens up. In the north-eastern hinterland the weather will still be stable and in the capitals Fortaleza and Salvador there is the possibility of rapid rain.

Northern Region

Circulation of winds, warm and humid air, which will cause heavy clouds in the state of Amazonas this Friday. More unstable day with rain at all hours – alternating periods of improvement. Some thunderstorms may occur within the state, in several municipalities in CA, RO and northern AP. It rains heavily in all other regions, but the air is suffocating.
