Doesn’t training on holiday affect your results? The expert responds

The trainer explains how the body reacts to a sudden interruption in physical activities and how this can affect goals

Not training on vacation, to a certain extent, is normal. After all, let’s face it, it is a time of leisure and rest, where daily activities take a back seat. However, could this attitude hinder physical conditioning? Or delay your goal of losing weight and gaining muscle mass?

According to physical educator Jairo Lucheta, it is much easier and faster to deconstruct an athletic physique than to build it. In other words, anything that took months to accomplish can be lost in a matter of weeks. Therefore, it is important to train on vacation.

For the expert, one week without training is equivalent to two or even three weeks of training. But relax. This measurement may vary depending on the body and individuality of each person. And also your holiday routine. For those who train intensely, even a short rest can be beneficial. But for most people, lack of training only makes them worse.

As for training on holiday, Jairo has no doubts: “if you stop for a long time, you can return to the starting point of when you started training. A prolonged break affects the performance of aerobic endurance and muscle strength. Even on vacation, stick to at least 20 minutes of physical activity a day.”

How to train on holiday

Furthermore, we cannot deny that the biggest enemy of those who want to do physical activity during the holidays is laziness. And, precisely for this reason, Jairo helped us put together some tips to not stop training during the holidays, find out:

  • Even in the summer project, create small, real and achievable goals. This way you avoid possible frustrations;
  • Practice with pleasure. Look for an activity that gives you satisfaction;

  • Let yourself be inspired by people who have already achieved the right body for you. However, avoid too careful comparisons. Each person has their own body type and specific conditions. Training on holiday is good, but be careful when you commit;
