The Broad National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15), a preview of the indicator used as a benchmark for the Central Bank’s inflation target, rose 0.40% in December, after rising 0.33 % in the previous month, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Thursday.

A Reuters poll of economists estimates an increase of 0.27% for the period under review.

Over the past 12 months, the IPCA-15 recorded an increase of 4.72%, lower than the immediately preceding 12 months (4.84%), but also higher than the 4.59% expected by economists, according to a Reuters survey .

Seven of the nine product and service groups surveyed increased, with the biggest impact coming from the Transportation group, which increased by 0.77% despite falling fuel prices, under pressure from airline tickets, which increased by 9%. .02%.

Other highlights were food and beverage (0.54%) and housing (0.48%).

Prices were recorded from November 15th to December 14th.
