In January 2022, the action and spy series called “In the service of the past” ended with a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, there won’t be a second season, we learn What’s on Netflix.
Created by Adam Glass, known for his work on the Supernatural and Criminal Minds series, the first season of In the Service of the Past combines classic thriller, action and espionage elements with a touch of fantasy.
during the interview NetflixAdam Glass noted that three seasons were originally planned. He said about the end of the first season:Obviously, the reveal at the end of the season leaves a lot of questions unanswered, and I think it needs to be played with.“
How did the series come out on Netflix?
According to Netflix’s Top 10, In Service of the Past has amassed 85.83 million hours in its first 16 days on the platform. It remained in the top ten worldwide for three weeks in the English-language series category. And it entered the top 10 series from 73 countries.
But here are some figures provided by What’s on Netflix for a better understanding:

In Service of the Past was released on January 28, and thus only ran for two days during the first week under review. The series did not enter the top 10 between February 14 and 20, meaning it accumulated less than 11.04 million hours of viewing.
That drop in Week 3 was an early indicator that viewers were quickly declining, and considering the hours weren’t particularly high to begin with, it suggests the series wasn’t finding a large audience.
Adam Glass argued that the series needed to get good audience ratings to justify its return. in the interview LooperHe emphasized the importance of the audience for a possible 2nd and even 3rd season:
“It’s up to you to make it happen. Tell all your friends and family to watch so we can continue the story. We already have plans for season 2 and 3 as well..”
In April 2023, Adam Glass posted a message
We were hoping to reach a bigger audience, but it didn’t happen. But that doesn’t detract from the great work of our cast, crew, executives, directors and writers. making #from the cold It was a dream come true; I am forever grateful #Netflix to happen pic.twitter.com/i6DjcvwNgR

As for Netflix, it has since confirmed that the series will not be returning to the streamer in any form.
