Santos officially announced, this Sunday (31/12), the purchase of the club’s new reinforcement: Guilherme. The striker played last season for Fortaleza, on loan from Grêmio. For the team from the capital of Ceará, he scored 10 goals in 52 games. Guilherme thus completes a three-year contract at Vila Belmiro, with the challenge of participating in the campaign in search of a return to Serie A of the Brazilian championship.
And a curiosity: Santos’ relegation to Série B, on 12/6, occurred against Fortaleza, where Guilherme was playing on loan from the Rio Grande do Sul club. In the match, Santos fought back, but lost 2-1, to Vila Belmiro. Guilherme was actually on the pitch and only came off in the 36th minute of the second half, making way for Machuca.
Guilherme: several career loans
Born in Sao Paulo, on 04/13/1995, Guilherme Augusto Vieira dos Santos was 19 years old when he started playing for Cotia-SP, in 2014. From there he moved to Grêmio, in Rio Grande do Sul. a professional team was at São José-RS, on loan. In fact, between 2016 and 2020, Grêmio loaned the athlete to various clubs. Thus, in addition to São José, he defended Botafogo, Chapecoense, Coritiba and Sport Recife.
However, in January 2020, Grêmio sold him to Al-Faisaly, from Saudi Arabia, where he remained for two years. The player then went to Al Dhafra, in the United Arab Emirates, but seven months later Grêmio bought him back.
Santos reinforcements for the fight to return to the elite
At Santos, Guilherme arrives to form a list of reinforcements which will also include defender Gil, midfielders Diego Pituca, Otero, Giuliano and João Schmidt, full-backs Jorge and Aderlan and forwards Willian Bigode and Marcelinho. And there is still waiting for the agreements with the midfielder Cazares and the striker Pedrinho.
Among the players already present at Peixe, it is certain that goalkeeper João Paulo, defenders Jair and Joaquim, midfielder Tomás Rincón and striker Julio Furch will remain in the team.
