As happens once every year, tonight the famous countdown will take place from ten seconds to midnight to this new year 2024, which will consist of resolutions, dry January and of course the discovery of new cinematic gems in theaters or streaming.
In fact, the cinema also had the opportunity to stage these New Year’s evenings. This was also the topic of our quiz on December 31 last year.
The first of the nine proposed films showed Tom Hanks, covered in streamers and party favors, screaming in front of another man who was clearly less affectionate. We got to know the famous Forrest Gump, facing Lt. Dan Taylor in a wheelchair, both legs amputated after an injury sustained during the Vietnam War.
The next picture depicted one of the most tragic new years in cinema. The one that saw Al Pacino in Michael Corleone’s shoes, giving the kiss of death to his brother Fredo after the latter’s betrayal. Therefore, it was of course a scene from Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather trilogy, leaving the question of which of the three films this famous sequence came from. 63% of you chose the correct answer, The Godfather II.
One of the final images of the quiz presented a large room with multi-colored bubbles, with a silhouette of a man in a Chinese shadow in the foreground from behind. Then you had to recognize the actor Daniel Day-Lewis in the emotional finale of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, which wasn’t so easy as only 17% of you ticked the correct answer.
Changing the year tonight and changing the concept of this New Year’s quiz. Indeed, we are not asking you to find the titles of the films this time, but to try to remember what year these ten films take place, alternating between historical films of the past and SF films of the future. It’s up to you and Happy New Year!
