I’m Your Man, Romance with Comedy and Expectation, is a new feature film by German director Maria Schreider, which is the latest director’s Netflix mini-series to be extraordinary.

Inspired by the short story by Emma Braslavsky, written by Maria Schreider and Ian Schomburg, the film depicts the place that algorithms now occupy in our daily lives.

I’m Your Man’s idea is to show the experience of a woman-robot relationship that looks like a human. With his “ideal son-in-law” physique, like Ken, this “robot” is played by British comedian Dan Stevens (beauty and beast) and is “designed” to perfectly fit the young woman’s expectations. This scientific experiment, first experienced as a constraint, will obviously develop throughout the film, but we will say no more to keep the surprise at bay.

From this starting point, recalling the innovative side of a novel like his, I Am Your Man, is a wonderful film that invites us to think about what makes a romantic relationship so unique and so precious. What if nothing was surprising and our partner only reflected our supposed desires? What if everything was calculated according to our expected expectations? “My algorithm is designed to make you happy,” says the heroine hero in the heart of the film.

In addition to this rather original and attractive pitch, the success of Maria Schrader’s third full-length film is also due to her rather polished aesthetics, the bright and sophisticated series with the false air of a futuristic film.

Let’s also mention his actor, Dan Stevens in the lead role, who we also found to be fluent in German. He is surrounded by Maren Eggert (Awarded at the Berlin Film Festival 2021 for this film) and Sandra Huller (seen in Tony Erdmann) in particular. Note that filmmaker Maria Schrader is also known as an actress by profession, for which she was rightly honored at the Berlin Film Festival in 1999 for her film Aimée & Jaguar.
