If Tom Cruise’s career was largely built at Paramount, which notably produced Top Gun and Mission: Impossible, his biggest successes, it will soon continue at Warner.
A star is indeed coming to sign the contractwhose duration is not revealed, to develop “Original films and franchises intended for theatrical release” from 2024.
Cruise and Warner, long history
For Tom Cruise, it’s a return to the studio, with whom he’s already worked on The Outsiders, Risky Business, Interview with the Vampire, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, The Last Samurai and Rocky Forever. Not forgetting Edge of Tomorrow, whose sequel, regularly mentioned, could finally take off thanks to this rapprochement.
But the question we can now ask ourselves is: What if Tom Cruise also stepped into the DC universe, which is being overhauled by James Gunn and Peter Safran? Last March, the actor praised The Flash, “That’s the kind of film we need right now.”
With Andy Muschietti’s feature film ($271.3 million worldwide alone) not doing well, these comments have raised some questions about the real reason behind this lauded performance and, by extension, Tom Cruise’s future.
And the chance to see him in superhero roles. That’s just speculation, of course, but his new deal with Warner makes it a little more feasible. on the page.
The end of the course for Ethan Hunt?
And maybe one of the movies he’ll develop with Warner will be part of the upcoming DC Universe. Or that he’ll be in the casting for the Batman sequel, much to the delight of the writer of these lines. While waiting to learn more, another question arises: What will happen to his association with Paramount?
As much as Tom Cruise will have offices at the Warner site, it seems unlikely that he will be working with both studios at the same time. And that doesn’t stop the rumor that Mission: Impossible 8, due in our theaters on May 21, 2025, will be the last episode in the saga for its star, who has played Ethan Hunt since 1996.
