Construction company warns of the risk of collapse of the tower hit by the explosion in Porto Alegre

The situation has already been communicated to the public authorities

Friday evening, the Tent construction issued a note warning of the imminent danger of collapse of tower 10 of the condominium Upper San Francisco, located in the Rubem Berta neighborhood, north of Porto Alegre. The statement comes after a new technical assessment was carried out on the building, affected by an explosion which occurred on 4 January.

The company informs that, although the risk of collapse is the result of an explosion inside one of the apartments and not due to building collapse, it is actively collaborating with the condominium to ensure effective isolation of the area, affecting blocks 9, 10, 11 and 12. The situation has already been communicated to the public authorities.

“After having had access to the technical report of the condominium, which showed a risk of the building collapsing due to a house explosion, the construction company promptly informed the public authorities of the situation.

Although the risk of collapse derives from an explosion that occurred inside an apartment and not from building failures, the company is actively collaborating with the condominium to ensure effective isolation of the area, including blocks 9, 10, 11 and 12 .

The installation of cladding that completely isolates access to these units is already underway. The area was previously subjected to partial isolation by the Civil Protection, with the support of private night surveillance.

The engineers of the construction company, experts in the construction methodology used, confirm the conclusions of the condominium appraisal, underlining that the explosion entailed a risk of collapse of the building, which requires the implementation of additional measures to guarantee the safety of the residents.

The construction company reiterates its commitment to collaborate in solidarity with the necessary initiatives.”
