The UFC kicked off its 2024 season with an event in Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world. And with a Brazilian protagonist of the main fight of the evening, with Johnny Walker facing Magomed Ankalaev in the rematch of the controversial UFC 294 duel, in Abu Dhabi.

And this time there was no controversy. The Russian once again showed the reasons that made him one of Ultimate’s greatest light heavyweights, winning in the second round by knockout and taking an important step towards fighting for the division’s belt,

Fight

As soon as the duel began, Walker began to show his traditional ease, landing good shots against Ankalaev. The Brazilian had no problem kicking with all his might at the Russian, who in the first minutes of the fight made no attempt to explain the somewhat daring strategy of his rival.

The same thing happened in the second round, but now Ankalaev feels satisfied in the exchange of blows with Walker. It seemed that the duel would be marked by “excessive legs”, but when the hand came, the fight was over.

This hand was Ankalaev’s. A right hook immediately knocks out the Brazilian and ensures the fight ends and the Russian wins the rematch. The blow was so strong that it also provoked the reaction of someone who perhaps didn’t have much to do with the clash, but is linked to someone who could have a rival in sight: Glover Teixeira, who is the coach of the current champion of division, Alex Poatan.

– Nice knockout. See you soon – writes Glover in the ‘message’ to Ankalaev,

Brazilian knockout show

UFC Vegas 84 saw four more Brazilians enter the octagon and star in knockout fights. Brunno Hulk went to seek rehabilitation against Phil Hawes on the main card and showed all his strength, dominating the fight in strikes and, with the left hand, knocked down the American to win again in the Ultimate and also challenge the Russian phenomenon Sharaputdin Magomedov, the “Shara Bullet”.

In his UFC debut, Jean Silva left no room for doubt to prove that he is a good addition to the organization. The ‘Lord Assassin began the fight cautiously, but as soon as he began landing blows, he got Westin Wilson into trouble. And, in the first round, he landed a series of punches that led to the KO.

It took just 63 seconds for Nikolas Motta to solve his problem with Tom Nolan. The fight against the Australian started very fierce and both men fought hard. The native of Minas Gerais was the one who did best in this initiative and, on his big occasion, it was with a straight right that gave Nolan no chance to react to win again in the UFC.

The one who wasn’t as lucky was Felipe Bunes. “Felipinho” was another UFC debutant this weekend, facing Joshua Van, and was unable to face the Myanmar fighter. Van had good control of the bout and won by knockout in the second round.
