See how the African competition began
With the conclusion of both matches this Wednesday (17), the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations has concluded. Some results were surprising and there were also some surprises in the Ivory Coast-based competition. Check it out with Lance! how the tournament groups went.
A GROUP
The competition began with the victory of Ivory Coast, host country of the Africa Cup of Nations, who beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 and took the lead in the group. In the match against a packed Stadio Olimpico Ebimpé, Seko Fofana opened the scoring in the opening minutes and Jean-Philippe Krasso sealed the victory in the second phase
In the other match, Nigeria drew 1-1 against Equatorial Guinea, starting from behind and seeing Ibán Salvador score for the Ecuadorian Guineas. But led by Napoli center forward Victor Osimhen, Nigeria equalized in the next minute. Even with a better team, Nigeria only had one point.
GROUP B
Led by Mohamed Salah, Egypt stumbled against Mozambique and drew 2-2. The Egyptians took the lead in the first minutes with Mostafa Mohamed, but in the second half the Mozambican team equalized and quickly turned the game around. However, in injury time, the star appeared and Salah equalized in injury time, from the penalty spot.
The surprise of the competition, Cape Verde beats Ghana 2-1 and leads Group B. Jamiro Monteiro opened the scoring for the Cape Verdeans. In the second phase, Alexander Djiku equalized for the Ghanaians, but in stoppage time, Garry Rodrigues scored the winning goal for Cape Verde.
GROUP C
Senegal made a good debut by beating reigning champions Gambia 3-0 to top the group. The game was courageous and in the first minutes they opened the scoring with Pape Gueye. In the second half Lamine Camara scores a brace and decides the match.
On the other side of the group, Cameroon and Guinea found themselves at 1-1. The Guineas started well and opened the scoring early on, through Mohamed Bayo. But in the second phase, Frank Magri tied the match, ending it like this.
GROUP D
In the match that opened the group, Algeria and Angola drew 1-1. Baghdad Bounedjah scored the first goal and gave the Algerians the lead, but in the second half Mabululo scored from a penalty and equalized the duel.
In an exciting match, Burkina Faso beat Mauritania 1-0 to lead the group. The goal came in the last minute from Aston Villa player Bertrand Traoré.
GROUP E
The Namibian team, one of the underdogs in the first round, beat Tunisia 1 to 0. The only goal of the match came from Deon Kavendi, in the final minutes. The Namibians are in second place in the group.
In the other match, the Mali team beat South Africa 2 to 0. The goals of the match came in the second half, Hamari Traoré opened the scoring and a few minutes later Lassine Sinayoko scored the second goal to decide the match . The Malians lead the pack.
GROUP F
2022 World Cup semi-finalists, Morocco comfortably beat Tanzania 3-0 to take the lead in the group. Romain Saïss opened the scoring in the first half. In the second phase, Azzedine Ounahi doubled and En-Nesyri scored the third.
At the end of the first round, the Democratic Republic of Congo drew 1-1 with Zambia. The Zambians opened the scoring with Kings Kangwa, but the Congolese immediately tied the match, staying that way until the final whistle.
The second round starts on Thursday (18th) and includes the following clashes:
Equatorial Guinea x Guinea-Bissauat 11:00 (Brasilia time)
Ivory Coast-Nigeriaat 2:00 pm (Brasilia time)
Egypt x Ghanaat 5pm (Brasilia time)
