After a balanced match that ended 3-3, the Vasco coach held a press conference and shared his thoughts on the team’s second match in the Rio championship.
Regarding the first phase, William understands that the defeat was not so fair and the team could have gone to the locker room with a better result.
-When we look at the number of entries into the final third, the number of shots, the fairest result would have been a 1-1 or 0-0 draw, but the opponent made better use of the opportunities they had.
To solve the problems and come back strong in the second half, Vasco needed changes in their game tactics. The construction changed from 4 defenders behind to a line of 4 in midfield, when Leandrinho started to support the attacking sector more, thus bringing the lines closer together.
-We have reduced the overtaking lines, bringing them closer from 15-20 meters to 7-10 metres. From then on we managed to create good game progressions and the ball started to enter more into the final third. When we open the line to 3 in defense the game clears up, the opponent starts to have doubts, we can create more scoring opportunities and exploit them.
Luca Orellano is going through a difficult moment off the pitch, but he has shined on the 4 lines.
-Orellano played a good game, he did what is expected of him with the Vasco shirt. He took advantage of the moves at his disposal, the good finishing and the free kicks. We (the technical committee) are happy with the way he played.
Using a young team, with many players coming from the grassroots, Vasco achieved a win and a draw.
-In the other match (2-0 victory against Boavista) we found ourselves with 9 basic players on the pitch in the match we managed to win, today there were eight, from Halls to Paixão. I want to take advantage and thank Ramon who gave important training in the preparation for Carioca. Vasco has great players at its base who will sooner or later bring joy to the fans and will be a great financial resource for the club.
Vasco’s A should make their debut in Carioca in group 3, in the clash against Madureira, on the 25th at 8pm. Ramon Diaz should be the team commander and William will probably return to the Under 20s.
