The release of Dune: Part II is fast approaching. On this occasion, the film’s stars, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, gathered to answer Fandango’s questions in a taped interview. The latter thus revealed that an aspect of his character’s personality will finally see the light of day in this long-awaited sequel.
You may not know it, but in the Frank Herbert literary work on which the films are based, Gurney Halleck, the character played by Josh Brolin, is also a talented musician – in addition to being an outstanding warrior and instructor. In his free time, he plays and writes music and is considered one of the best players of the Imperium tag (a stringed musical instrument).

Duet Josh Brolin / Hans Zimmer
In the first part, whose music was composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer, Denis Villeneuve had to cut a scene representing this aspect of the character because it didn’t fit too well with the tone of the rest of the film as it was interpreted. Josh Brolin. However, in the upcoming second opus, all this will change…
“When the second film came out, he said, “I want you and Hans to collaborate on a song.” I sat for a month and a half, writing poems and sending them to Dennis and Hans. And Hans was on vacation, so he’d send me pictures of icebergs or sunsets, and I’d say, “Dude, I need to work on a song, send me the music for the song.””
Denis Villeneuve asked Josh Brolin to work with Hans Zimmer to come up with a song that Gurney could play on the tag in DUNE: PART TWO.

“So he sent me music periodically and they were bad and became so regular that I wondered if Hans was right for this film“, he joked. “And then I saw the movie and the lyrics are good, and the music is brilliant, genius!“It’s promising.
